Terence Crawford retires from boxing

Terence Crawford unlaced his gloves Tuesday and called it a career.
Boxing’s best fighter and the only male boxer to win three unified division titles in the sport has decided to retire from the sport at the age of 38. He finished his career with a record of 42-0 with 31 knockouts.

“Every fighter knows this moment will come,” he said in a video announcing his retirement. “You never know when it will happen.”
Crawford won the super middleweight title with a unanimous decision over Canelo Alvarez in September.
He turned professional in 2008 and won championships in four different weight classes: lightweight, super lightweight, middleweight and super heavyweight. He moved up two weight divisions for the fight against Alvarez.
Earlier this month, Crawford was stripped of his World Boxing Council super middleweight title for allegedly failing to pay sanctioning fees for his last two fights. Crawford tore the organization apart after he was stripped of the title.

Now Crawford has decided to step away completely.
“This sport has given me everything,” Crawford said. “I fought for my family. I fought for the city. I fought for the kid I used to be, the kid who had nothing but a dream and a pair of gloves, and I did it until the end.
“I’ve made peace with what’s coming next. It’s time.”
If Crawford chooses to return to the ring, Jake Paul will be waiting to guide him between the ropes.
Paul, who will fight Anthony Joshua on Saturday night, did not believe Crawford was 100% retired from the sport.

“He was going to have to get in line,” Paul told reporters. addicted to MMA. “Canelo, Crawford, all these guys can get tickets and we’ll see who I want to fight. He’s not retired bro. You’ve seen it a million times in boxing. He’s not retired but that’s why everyone is talking about him now, very smart play by Terence.”
