Major UK drugs bust as restaurant owners ‘use pizza boxes to deal’ | UK | News

Police raided a pizzeria at dawn on suspicion of distributing drugs in pizza boxes.

Five people were reportedly arrested in an early morning raid in Oldham Manchester Evening News.

Greater Manchester Police said they were part of an “investigation into a suspected organized crime group (OCG) suspected of distributing class A substances in the Oldham area”.

Police added that the raids were carried out following a tip that “Class A drugs were being distributed, including food containers such as pizza boxes”.

The two men were reported to be local businessmen in their 30s. They are being detained for questioning and extensive searches continue.

Officers raided the restaurant in Royton as well as a five-bedroom house in Middleton.

Drone footage shows a dozen police officers running around the back of the property, cutting through the glass panel of the back door to force entry and carrying out a handcuffed man.

Mobile phones and “a large amount of money” were seized during the raid.

Detective Constable Nicole Kelly told the Manchester Evening News that drug crime brings misery to the local community, affecting not only drug users but also people in the local area by turning them into crime.

Detective Sergeant Donna Youngjohns, from GMP’s Oldham Challenger Unit, also called for officers to contact police with information if they suspect illegal activity may be taking place in their area so officers can take action.

“If you would like to report any suspicious activity in your area contact us on 101 or you can also report via the Live chat function on our website. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
