US launches airstrikes against dozens of Islamic State targets in Syria | US military

The U.S. military launched airstrikes on dozens of Islamic State targets in Syria on Friday in retaliation for an attack on U.S. personnel, two U.S. officials said Friday.
The attacks came after Donald Trump vowed retaliation following an attack by a suspected Islamic State member in Syria last weekend.
A US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, described the strikes as a broad-scale response that included targets in central Syria.
Two U.S. Army soldiers and a civilian translator were shot and killed by an attacker targeting a convoy of American and Syrian forces in the central Syrian town of Palmyra on Saturday, according to the U.S. military. 3 US soldiers were also injured in the attack.
A US-led coalition has carried out airstrikes and ground operations targeting Islamic State suspects in Syria in recent months, often with the participation of Syrian security forces.
