Citizens are safe: Maharashtra FDA says no Coldrif syrup supplied in the State

On Sunday, October 5, 2025, after the reports of Child Deaths in Mahashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, an urgent consultancy requesting an immediate suspension of the sale, distribution and use of the Coldrif syrup allegedly linked to the product.

It is set to end in April 2027. Laboratory analysis has revealed the presence of diethylene glycol (value), a toxic chemical that is common in industrial products such as antifreeze. The incident triggered the answers in several states. Madhya Pradesh brought a full prohibition for the syrup after the death of more than one child in Chhindwara. Rajasthan suspended the state pharmaceutical controller and stopped the distribution of all drugs from another manufacturer Kaysons Pharma, while a specialist committee to investigate.

The Ministry of Health of the Union also suggested that cough and cold drugs should not be prescribed to children under two years of age and proposed to guide health departments in all states and union regions.
