Malakpet Mosque Faces Darkness Over Rs 2 Lakh Power Bill

Hyderabad: With an unpaid electricity bill of around ₹ 2 lakh, Masjid-e-Mohiuddin Unnisa Begum in Malakpet is in danger of power outage.
Dues amounting to ₹ 1,98,815 have been accumulated for Masjid-i Mohiuddin Unnisa Begum, one of the largest mosques in the twin cities under the Telangana Waqf Board. The deadline for approval of the November bill ended on Saturday. The debts have been accumulating for two years, with the last payment due in February.
The unpaid amount was attributed to the approach of the mosque staff and the foundation inspector who did not share the invoices with the Foundation Board responsible for payments.
While the mosque staff said that they conveyed the issue to the Board officials, they also met with the discom officials in the south and guaranteed payment, but the Foundation Board claimed that it did not receive any electricity bill from either the inspector or the mosque employee.
Foundation activists claimed that the Foundation inspector, rent collector and mouzzan of the mosque were responsible for this disruption. They urged minority welfare minister Muhammad Azharuddin to visit the Waqf Board at least once a week to improve its functioning.
Foundation activist Md. Hebeebuddin pointed out that worshipers also provide financial aid during Ramadan and on normal days, in addition to the income and donations they receive from mosque properties. “Even after such assistance, I wonder how the current bill has reached nearly ₹2 lakh,” he said.
Foundation Board member Syed Bandhagi Badesha Quadri said that the matter should be investigated as the image of the Board was damaged due to the mosque staff and inspector not sharing the bills. “We will take action against those responsible for the issue,” he said.
