The film sparked controversy after its premiere at the Venice Film Festival; According to Variety, a reporter claimed viewers complained that the story “revived old debates” about women believing other women when they make allegations of sexual assault, a central issue of the #MeToo movement.

There are a lot of old debates that are being renewed and creating conversation.”
“The best part about your question is that you all came out of the theater and talked about it. That’s how we wanted it to feel. You realize what you believe so strongly about because we’re mixing it all up for you. So welcome.”
