Supreme Court administration writes to Centre, seeks removal of ex-CJI Chandrachud from official residence

An unprecedented move, the Supreme Court Administration, wrote to the Center to evacuate the official residence of the Indian chief justice (CJI) in the new Delhi, Krishna Menon Marg, and said that the current occupier EX-Cji Dy Chandrachud remained beyond the permitted time.

The 1 July letter of the Administration of the Supreme Court of Appeals marked the violation of both the timeline and the legal framework and that Krishna Menon Marg residence was allowed for “special conditions”.
He asked the center to have the official CJI bungalow and inform the Supreme Court without any delay.

Sources also reported that Justice Chandrachud had asked CJI Khanna in April that a accommodation in accordance with the special needs of her daughters and asked for the extension of the official residence time to be extended until June 30th.
