After Team USA beat Canada in the Olympic gold medal game on Sunday, all Brady Tkachuk wanted to do was celebrate. But first he had to take a drug test.
Tkachuk, 26, fulfilled his media obligations and tapped him on the shoulder as he headed to the locker room.
“I tap myself on the shoulder, ‘Hi Brady, you’ve been selected for drug testing,’” Tkachuk said on the latest episode of his podcast. “Wingmen with Matthew and Brady Tkachuk.”

Matthew Tkachuk said players are not required to take a drug test when they are notified, but until they do, you are on probation. Brady said the other two players chose to take their tests right away but missed a few songs. He didn’t want to miss any of the celebrations, so he opted to wait for the bus to leave to take the exam, which meant another hour and a half to two hours.
Matthew said the man he called “little Johnny”, who was running the test, had a front row seat to the locker room celebrations.
Brady said he drank about five beers, three Powerades and two waters over a period of about 40 minutes but did not yet have the urge to use the restroom. He explained that drug tests require 90 milliliters of urine, and if you do not fill the glass with the required amount, you have to wait until you fill it.

Brady said he normally doesn’t have any problems going to the bathroom after the game, but due to the pressure of having to test to continue celebrating, he wasn’t sure if he would be able to produce enough urine to complete the test. The Ottawa Senators captain said he was patient and finally decided to take the test 10 minutes before the bus was due to depart.
“Finally, 10 minutes before I got on the bus (left), I said, ‘Eff, I gotta gamble, I gotta gamble with this.’ And he did, and (it was) 100 milliliters. I said, ‘Thank God’ because if I had to stay there and all the kids left and I had to meet them, I would have been grumpy.”
Locker room celebrations kicked off several days of wild partying for Team USA.
