‘Her star power is so…’

About why Ayesha Khan and Krystle D’Souza were chosen over Shararat in Dhurandhar, Vijay Ganguly said: “The makers chose the two actors to keep the focus on the progression of the story. This choice was about maintaining the atmosphere of the film and ensuring that the narrator remains the hero of the sequence.”

Choreographer Vijay Ganguly has cleared the air on headlines stating that Tamannaah Bhatia was “rejected” for Dhurandhar’s song Shararat. The choreographer announced on his social media account that the actress was never considered for this role. He stated that Tamannaah carries enough star power to exceed the needs of the show. Therefore, the producers opted for two actors to allow the narrative to be the hero of the sequence.
He highlighted how words can be sensationalized to make headlines by using terms such as ‘rejection’. “I truly enjoy conversations about cinema and the many layers of making a film. However, I have refrained from putting myself out there as sometimes words are selectively removed, misquoted, or sensationalized rather than crafted to serve headlines. Instead of keeping the conversation on the song and the creative intent behind Shararat, the focus shifts to comparisons between two great artists and the use of strong and reductive terms like “rejection” – it’s unfortunate. It’s never collaborative in spirit of what’s shared. It thrives on respect, nuance and context, hopefully.” “We can keep the spotlight where it belongs: on the business and the many people who put their hearts into it,” he wrote.
He further explained why Tamannaah was not considered for the Shararat song and added, “To clarify: Tamannaah Bhatia was never considered because her star power is so important that she might have met the specific needs of this scene. In Dhurandhar, the music touched on a risky moment where suspense was important. The makers chose the two artistes to maintain focus on the progression of the story. This choice was about maintaining the atmosphere of the film and ensuring that the narrative remains the hero from the series.”
Vijay Ganguly’s statements put an end to headlines that Tamannaah was “rejected” for the song. Instead, he emphasizes the need to focus on the filmmaker’s intent behind creative decisions, rather than focusing on irrelevant chatter. His words underscore a crucial aspect of filmmaking: Casting decisions are driven by narrative balance and vision, not notions of acceptance of rejection.
