Two police officers killed in explosion in Moscow

Russian officials said that three people, including two police officers, died in the explosion in Moscow.
Russia’s Investigative Committee said two traffic police officers spotted a “suspicious person” near a police car on the city’s Yeletskaya Street, and when they approached to detain the suspect, the explosive device was detonated.
Two police officers and another person standing nearby died from their injuries.
The explosion occurred near where a senior Russian general was killed in a car bomb in the capital on Monday.
Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov died when an explosive placed under a car detonated.
Investigative Committee spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko said in a statement on Telegram that a criminal case “related to an attempt on the life of traffic police officers” was being investigated in Moscow.
The officers’ names were stated in Russian media as 24-year-old Ilya Klimanov and 25-year-old Maxim Gorbunov.
Alexander, who lives nearby, told the Reuters news agency: “There was an explosion.
“It was a loud bang, just like the car a few days ago.”
Russia has said it suspects Ukraine was behind Monday’s explosion, but Ukraine has not said whether it was involved in Fanil Sarvarov’s death.
It is not known whether the two explosions are related.
Sarvarov, 56, was head of the armed forces’ operational training department.
He was the third military official killed in bomb attacks in the Russian capital last year.
