SIR hearings to begin on Saturday in Bengal; 32 lakh unmapped voters to be covered
The official said around 32 lakh “unmapped” voters who could not be linked with the 2002 electoral rolls would be summoned for hearings in the first phase.
Voters will be allowed to submit any of 12 recognized documents, including Aadhaar, as proof of identity and address, the official at the state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) office said on Friday.
However, the commission clarified that the Aadhaar card will not be accepted as an independent document.
“Selection lists prepared during the last SIR exercise in Bihar will also be accepted as valid documents. However, submission of forged or false documents will be considered a punishable offence,” the official said. he warned.
State Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal said that all preparations for the hearings have been completed.
“The process will be conducted under the supervision of more than 4,500 micro-observers; observers will be allowed only at competent authorities like EROs, AROs, BLOs and hearing centres,” the official told PTI.
The survey agency stated that no changes will be allowed once the hearing centers and rules are finalized, adding that the measures aim to ensure transparency and accuracy in the revision process.
