Man arrested after allegedly stealing donations from Sydney charity brass band

Police have filed a criminal complaint against a man who allegedly stole money from the donation box of a band performing for charity.

A band performing festive cheer at Sydney Town Hall station was interrupted by a man rummaging through an ornate donation box.

A man is seen collecting handfuls of cash and then quickly distributing the donations the group had collected around 6pm on December 9.

Following police investigations, officers arrested a 50-year-old man in Kings Cross on Sunday, charging him with theft.

The man, who was denied bail, is expected to appear in the 7th Bail Circuit Court on Monday to face the charges.
