Sunny Leone’s New Year event in Mathura cancelled after priests protest, call her ‘porn star’

Hindu religious organization Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Sangharsh Nyas, in a letter addressed to the District Magistrate, demanded cancellation of Sunny Leone’s New Year event in Mathura. The event was canceled by the organizers after a huge reaction from religious groups in the city.

Sunny Leone’s 2026 New Year event at a restaurant in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura district has been canceled following strong objections from seers and religious groups in the city. The event was reportedly planned at a bar on New Year’s Eve. However, shortly after the announcement, several demonstrators objected to the demonstration, expressing their anger.

Hindu religious organization Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Sangharsh Nyas demanded cancellation of the event in a letter addressed to the District Magistrate on Monday. Following the reaction of religious groups and considering the sanctity of the holy city, event organizers decided to cancel the program.

Hotel owner Mitul Pathak told The Times of India that the event was planned as a DJ performance and not for any other purpose. “The DJ show was planned for a limited audience of 300 people with ticketed entry. Four seating categories were arranged for the audience, including booth, cabana, high terrace seating and double standing,” he said. He added that all administrative and legal norms were followed at the event. “Despite this, we decided to cancel the program, taking into account social and religious sensitivities,” he concluded.

Religious leader Dinesh Falhari Dharmacharya also shared his reasons for opposing the event. Describing Braj Bhumi as the land of “penance” and Lord Krishna, he told ANI: “Sadhus and saints have opposed this event because this is Braj Bhumi, the land where Lord Krishna performed Maharas. This is a land of penance and such activities should not be held here. Sunny Leone has worked in porn films before and hence cannot do any activity in our pure city.”

Giriraj Singh, one of the leaders of Hindu groups, also spoke to the news agency and thanked the state government for listening to the people. He praised the government for respecting the “sentiments” of the region and the sadhus and said: “I would like to thank the government of Uttar Pradesh on behalf of all the people of Braj Bhumi. I would like to express my gratitude to the government for considering the sentiments of the people of Braj Bhumi and also respecting the sadhus and sants.”
