15 Government Schools Set For Major Upgradation in Nellore

Nellore: Public education in Nellore will receive a major boost and 15 government schools will be upgraded on the VRC model, Minister P. Narayana announced during his visit to VR High School here on Tuesday.

Reviewing academic standards and later touring the slum in Vaikunthapuram, the minister said the government was committed to ensuring that development reaches the most vulnerable sections of society while transforming government schools into modern centers of learning.

Narayana interacted with students enrolled in preparatory courses at VR High School, reviewed teaching practices and held discussions with education authorities on strengthening academic delivery in city schools. He also oversaw the ongoing construction of the school’s cafeteria and presented awards to 15 students who excelled at the recent Science Fair.

Expressing satisfaction with the performance of the students, the minister said the encouraging results at VR High School inspired the decision to upgrade 15 government schools with more modern facilities. He also announced plans to build a new fully equipped school on five acres of Wakf Board land in Mansoor Nagar.

Stating that 6,500 students are currently enrolled in public schools across the city, Narayana said that approximately 1,500 students are interested in preparatory courses. Narayana assured that study materials will be provided free of charge to all such students.

“My mission is to ensure that children from economically weaker backgrounds receive quality education and equal opportunities,” he said.

Later in the day, Narayana fulfilled his promise to Vaikunthapuram slum dwellers by returning within a week to inspect the flood-affected areas along with senior officials. Residents of the area had previously stated that severe waterlogging occurred during the monsoon season. During the inspection, authorities identified 22 houses that were in danger of frequent flooding, and the minister instructed the administration to initiate early remedial measures.

Residents of the neighborhood thanked the minister for acting quickly and fulfilling his assurance. Emphasizing that improving slum conditions remains a key priority, Narayana cited the construction of a 20-storey residential complex under the PPP model for 170 families in Visakhapatnam, Lakshmipuram slum, as an example of the government’s commitment towards urban development.

“The development of the poor remains at the heart of our governance,” he said.

Commissioner Nandan, in-charge mayor Roop Kumar Yadav and former mayor Anuradha were also present during the visit.
