Starting at 8 a.m., skaters will be able to ride a 3.4 kilometer section, from the Somerset West access to the Bank Street bridge.
7.8 kilometers long, the Rideau Canal Ice Rink is recognized as the largest ice rink in the world, although conditions have not always been favorable for skating in recent years.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the ice rink remained closed in 2023 and barely opened in 2024 due to high temperatures.
The National Capital Commission (NCC), which manages the rink, indicates on its website that the skating season generally runs from January to early March, but is dependent on weather conditions.
When open, the skating rink is free and accessible at all times, specifies the NCC.
