Iconic global landmarks turn off lights

Global landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the Sagrada Familia Basilica in Barcelona turned off their lights for an hour Saturday night to celebrate Earth Hour.

The global event organized by the World Wildlife Fund is held every year to raise environmental awareness.

The event, which aims to encourage people to turn off their lights for 60 minutes, first started in Sydney, Australia, in 2007.
