‘Bizarre’: New Delhi Dismisses Beijing’s Claim Of Mediating India-Pakistan Tensions After Operation Sindoor | India News

The Indian government was reported to have described as “bizarre” the allegations that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi acted as a mediator during the military showdown between New Delhi and Islamabad in mid-May. This denial followed a similar denial of mediation claims by US President Donald Trump.
Beijing’s Unexpected Claim
Speaking at the “International Situation and China’s Foreign Relations Symposium” held in Beijing on Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi included China’s handling of the India-Pakistan conflict as part of China’s foreign relations success story of the year.

Describing the role China plays in global turmoil, Wang Yi said, “As for the method we use to handle hotspot conflicts, we have mediated between the conflict involving hotspots on the northern border of Myanmar state, the nuclear conflict between the Iranians and the rest of the world, the conflict between Pakistan and India, and the recent conflict between the states of Cambodia and Thailand.” he said.
May Standoff: Operation Sindoor
The above-mentioned tensions erupted following the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam valley in J&K on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians. India retaliated with a large-scale military operation called Operation Sindoor, targeting terror infrastructure along the border and in PoK.
While China now claimed to be mediating peace, reports at the time of the May conflict suggested a different role:
Intelligence Sharing: Many reports have mentioned that China is providing real-time surveillance inputs to Pakistan.
Military Equipment: Currently, China provides over 81% of Pakistan’s military hardware and is using the conflict as a testing ground for its weapons systems.
New Delhi Company: ‘No Room for Third Parties’
However, sources evaluating these developments in New Delhi completely rejected Wang Yi’s narrative. While a public statement is still awaited, officials have made it clear that the ceasefire on May 10 was a result of direct communication between senior military commanders of India and Pakistan.
“The Chinese side’s claim is strange,” a source said, reiterating that India’s “consistent and well-known” position is that all bilateral issues with Pakistan should be resolved without interference from third parties.
