India, Pakistan exchange list of nuclear installations

Continuing a practice dating back more than three decades, India and Pakistan on Thursday shared a list of their nuclear facilities under a bilateral agreement that bans the two sides from attacking each other’s atomic facilities.

The list change comes at a time when relations between the two countries remain in the deep freeze following four days of military clashes last May.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that the list exchange took place under the provisions of the agreement on the prohibition of attacks on nuclear installations and facilities.
This was done simultaneously through diplomatic channels in New Delhi and Islamabad.

“India and Pakistan today, through diplomatic channels, simultaneously exchanged in New Delhi and Islamabad the list of nuclear installations and facilities covered under the agreement between India and Pakistan on the prohibition of attacks on nuclear facilities and installations,” the MEA said. he said.


The agreement was signed on 31 December 1988 and entered into force on 27 January 1991.
The agreement obliges the two countries to inform each other about the nuclear facilities and facilities within the scope of the agreement on January one of each calendar year.

“This is the 35th consecutive exchange of such lists between the two countries; the first took place on January 1, 1992,” the MEA said in a brief statement. he said.
