Ex-Agniveer wing, cell set up in MHA for post-service coordination: Government

New Delhi: The Home Ministry has set up a special ex-Agniveer wing and an ex-Agniveer cell to coordinate post-service career progression and rehabilitation of Agniveers, the government told the Lok Sabha on Tuesday in response to a question from Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi.

Raising the issue, Gandhi asked whether the Home Ministry was tasked with coordinating the career progression of Agniveers after their tenure ends, and sought the justification for delegating the responsibility “to the MHA instead of the Ministry of Defence,” given that the Agniveers served in the armed forces.

He also asked whether the government had considered “potential overlap or coordination difficulties between the Home Office and the Ministry of Defense in managing the transition and career progression of former Agniveers”.
Replying to the question, Home Minister Nityanand Rai said that as per the Cabinet Secretariat notification, the issue of ‘Coordination of activities for further advancement of Ex-Donors’ has been allocated to MHA.

“A special ex-Agniveer wing and an ex-Agniveer cell have been constituted within the Ministry of Home Affairs for proper coordination, monitoring and formulation of rehabilitation policies for ex-Agniveers,” he added.
