Teen charged over alleged plans for Western Sydney shooting

A teenager has been charged after a dramatic police chase and allegations he planned a public shooting.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested in the woodland surrounding Woodville Golf Course in Sydney’s west on December 29 after a Porsche he was allegedly driving went over the fence and crashed into the green.

Police were initially responding to reports that a suspicious vehicle near the South Granville golf course failed to stop when instructed and a chase ensued.

The stolen Porsche Cayenne crashed through fences and crashed onto the track before the occupants of the vehicle fled on foot.

While the other passengers managed to escape from the police, the 17-year-old young man was arrested and hospitalized under police supervision.

When police searched the vehicle, they discovered a loaded firearm and canisters, as well as the vehicle’s license plates being copied.

Police allege that the incident was linked to organized crime groups.

“We believe we have stopped a shooting in a public place,” NSW Police Superintendent Grant Healey told 9News.

“We know what they’re talking about and we know the signs from the car that was pursued last night and the firearm that was found. We believe they were going to shoot on a premise.”

The teenager was charged with shooting with intent to murder (attempted) and possession of a prohibited firearm without a permit, among other charges.

He was denied bail and will appear in juvenile court on Friday.
