Nicolás Maduro was born on November 23, 1962 in Caracas and completed his secondary education at José Avalos High School.
The President of Venezuela was a member of the Socialist Union and began working as a driver for the Caracas Metro at a very young age, where he eventually became a member of the Board of Directors and a union leader.
According to IANS, he was also the founder of the new Caracas Metro Workers Union (SITRAMECA).
Political Career of Nicolás Maduro
Nicolás Maduro, a member of the Bolivarian Revolutionary Movement 200 (MBR-200), was a leading activist for the freedom of Venezuelan politician and revolutionary Hugo Chavez (who eventually labeled himself as his successor); Chavez was imprisoned for his participation in the 1992 military uprising.
Nicolás Maduro, elected Deputy Chief of the Federal District for a five-year term (2000-2005), presided over the National Assembly between January and August 2006; at this time he was called upon to assume the Foreign Office; from this post he supported the creation and strengthening of ALBA (2001) with Commander Hugo Chavez; Petrocaribe (2005); Unasur (2008) and CELAC (2010).
On October 10, 2012, Nicolas Maduro was appointed Vice President, and on March 8, 2013, a few days after the death of President Chavez, who was appointed as the Acting President of Venezuela by constitutional authority, IANS reported.
On April 14, 2013, he was elected Constitutional President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. Thus, he became the first Chavista and working class president in the country’s modern history.

Nicolas Maduro won the presidential elections in July 2024 with 51.95 percent of the votes and was sworn in for a third term as President of Venezuela in January 2025.
US-Venezuela Tension
According to an IANS report, in November 2025, US President Donald Trump said that he would not rule out using military force by land in Venezuela to eliminate what the US administration calls “narco-terrorists”.
On Saturday, Trump announced that the United States had struck Venezuela and captured its President, who was sent out of the country with his wife.
