Met Office full list of 11 UK areas to get snow by Tuesday with 47cm blizzards hit | Weather | News

The UK is set for a snowy start to the week, with the Met Office warning of travel disruptions, power cuts and widespread icy roads, and widespread weather warnings. The mercury is definitely down in 2026; temperatures have dropped well below freezing, with daytime temperatures only reaching 5°C in the next few days.
When the Arctic front meets wet air from the Atlantic, it creates the perfect recipe for snow, sleet and icy conditions. The weather that crashed over the weekend will continue to spread across the UK over the next 48 hours. These new warnings on Tuesday will primarily affect 12 areas, from the Scottish Highlands to Devon and Cornwall.
Snow and ice warnings will continue from 12:00 on Monday until 11:00 on Tuesday.
A snow and ice warning in Scotland will be in effect from midnight on January 6 until 23.59 on the same day.
Met Office forecasts added: “An area of snow is likely to move eastwards across central and northern Scotland on Tuesday.
“An additional 2-5cm of snow could accumulate quite widely, but particularly in the west and north of the warning area, 10-15cm could accumulate on the ground above 200 metres, with a few places likely to see a fall of around 20cm.”
However, weather models on WX maps predict that snow could be much heavier in Scotland; The latest data shows snow could reach depths of 47cm in northern areas.
A further warning will be in place in Wales and south-west England from 12pm on Monday until 11am the following day.
Forecasters predicted intermittent sleet and snow showers here throughout the evening and into Tuesday. They believe the bulk of the disruption will be around the west coast, but will likely spread inland where people can expect around 5-10cm of snowfall.
Finally, the east coast of England is also under warning from midnight Sunday until 11am Tuesday.
The Met Office added: “Although not all areas will be affected, showers of snow will move inland from the North Sea on Monday, with minor accumulations occurring in places.
“Where snow showers are most frequent, this is likely across south-east Scotland, parts of North and East Yorkshire and Redcar and Cleveland. Fresh snow drifts of 5-8cm will be possible in a few places. Lightning and high winds may pose additional hazards, particularly near windy coasts.”
