Benches clear during college baseball game after hard out

The college football season may be over, but a hard-hitting baseball game between the Central Michigan Chippewas and Toledo Rockets may have filled that void for a few minutes.
In the top of the seventh inning, Rockets outfielder Luke Walton hit a dribbling hit to Chippewas pitcher Max Hammond. Walton fired to the first base line, trying to avoid a tag or at least reach the bag before the pitcher threw it to the first baseman.

Hammond came down the line and pushed Walton to the ground. Tagging was done, but Walton took exception to the push. He stood up again and spoke to Hammond face to face. Two players had to stand back because both rows were spread out on the field.
When the dust cleared, Hammond and Walton were thrown out. The coaches did not make any statement about the situation after the match.

Central Michigan took the 6-5 victory in the 11th inning when Harrison Bowman delivered an RBI single. Bowman was 3-for-5 with a double strikeout.
The Chippewas beat the Rockets 18-7 on Saturday night. The victories clinched Central Michigan’s first Mid-American Conference series win of the season. They improved to 9-11 overall on the year and 3-6 against conference opponents.
Toledo falls to 10-11 overall and 6-3 against conference opponents.

Central Michigan will return to action on Tuesday for a game against the Michigan State Spartans. Toledo is also in action on Tuesday. They hit the road to face the Butler Bulldogs.
