Horror as woman ‘raped’ outside Wilko store in UK seaside town | UK | News

A woman was allegedly raped in front of a shop in a city center in England. Police have confirmed the arrest of a 27-year-old man following the attack, which was reported at around 5am on Saturday, January 3.
The woman was reportedly raped on Bethlehem Street in Grimsby. Photographs taken from the scene show a police cordon set up outside the Wilko store as officers examined the scene. The man remains in police custody as detectives continue to appeal to the public for information, police added.
Humberside Police officers are reviewing CCTV footage from the area around the time the alleged rape took place. They are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to get in touch as soon as possible.
Detective Inspector Mark Hawley said: “I know this will be an extremely worrying incident for members of the community, but I can reassure you that we take such reports extremely seriously.
“Since receiving the report, my teams have been carrying out a thorough investigation to understand the full circumstances surrounding the report, including reviewing CCTV, collecting witness statements and identifying and contacting the victim.
“Following these initial investigations we can confirm that a 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and remains in police custody.”
Authorities also continue to receive information from citizens. They would like to hear from anyone with relevant CCTV or dashcam footage from the area.
Police added: “If anyone else witnessed the incident, has any information or believes they may have CCTV or dashcam footage from when the incident occurred, please contact us quoting our non-emergency number, 101. crime reference 26*915.”
