Warren Buffett shared his morning breakfast routine, and it is not the typical CEO 5 am, health-conscious grind

Billionaire investor Warren Buffett, who transitioned from CEO to Chairman of his own company Berkshire Hathaway as of January 1, 2026, has shared his routines and mantras in both life and investing over the years.

While Warren Buffett recently handed over the reins of Berkshire to his successor Greg Abel, a clip from the 2017 HBO documentary ‘Becoming Warren Buffett’ garnered attention on social media for the Oracle of Omaha’s breakfast habits.

In particular, the now 95 legendary personality’s laid-back, casual clip stands in stark contrast to the 5 a.m. medal-on-the-pedal, exercise, gym, and healthy breakfast routine of many other leading corporate chefs.

In the clip posted on X by user Trung Phan, it is stated that the successful investor’s 5-minute commute to work in the morning includes purchasing McDonald’s breakfast every day; He jokes that he prefers the sausage option when markets are down and bacon when markets are up.

Warren Buffett’s breakfast menu: $2.61, $2.95 and $3.17 options and how he chose it

In the documentary clip, Warren Buffett states that while he is driving to work, there is a McDonald’s on the way and he will “grab something” there.

He then walked over to the car and ordered an egg and cheese hot dog bun, explaining to the camera: “When I’m shaving in the morning, I tell my wife. I say either $2.61, $2.95 or $3.17, and she puts that amount in a glass next to me, and that determines which of three breakfasts I get.”

This special order was the $2.95 option.

“When I’m not feeling so rich, I might go for the $2.61, which is two sausage patties, and then I put them together and pour myself a Coke. The $3.17 is a bacon, egg and cheese biscuit, but as the markets were down this morning it was over $3.17 and I went for the $2.95,” he added.

The modest expenses are surprising, considering Warren Buffett’s net worth was $152 billion as of December 31, 2025, making him the 10th richest person in the world, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
