The United Nations condemned the US attack on Venezuela, saying it violated international law and could increase instability in the region.

He said it set a worrying precedent that could make violent conflict more likely.

“I am deeply concerned about the lack of respect for the rules of international law,” Deputy Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo told an emergency meeting of the organization’s Security Council on Monday morning.

He was speaking on behalf of the UN’s political chief, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

His comments reflect broad concern among Washington’s allies following the dramatic U.S. military action and new comments from President Donald Trump following the push to seize Greenland.
