Government demands Musk’s X deals with ‘appalling’ Grok AI

Technology Minister Liz Kendall has called on Elon Musk’s X to urgently deal with the use of AI chatbot Grok to create sexualised deepfake images of women and girls without their consent.
The BBC has seen several examples of X asking the bot to digitally undress people to appear in bikinis without their consent, while also putting them in sexual situations.
Stating that the situation was “absolutely horrifying”, Kendall said: “We cannot and will not allow these humiliating images to spread.”
“It is absolutely right that Ofcom treats this matter as a matter of urgency and it has my full support in imposing whatever sanctions it deems necessary.”
On Monday, regulator Ofcom said Elon Musk’s company had made “immediate contact” with xAI and was investigating concerns that Grok was producing “nude photos” of people.
The BBC has approached X for comment.
on the platform on Sunday issued a warning to users Not to use Grok to produce illegal content, including child sexual abuse material.
Kendall said in a statement: “Services and operators have a clear obligation to act appropriately. This is about upholding the law, not restricting freedom of expression.”
“Under the Online Safety Act, we have identified the misuse of intimate images and cyber flashing as priority offenses – including where images are created by artificial intelligence. This means platforms must prevent such content from appearing online and take immediate action to remove it if it is displayed.”
