Trump rejected movie investing after Tim Allen talk, says comedian

Tim Allen knows the ins and outs of Hollywood movie investing very well.

Recently “Club Random with Bill MaherThe 72-year-old comedian recalled a conversation with President Donald Trump about the risks of investing in movies and the moment he realized Trump was no longer interested in investing money.

“‘If we start a studio together, let’s say the movie costs a million and six or a million and twenty,’ he says.’ Then I said, ‘You have to at least double that for the promotion. So you made 210 million for one movie and two hundred million for another.’ ‘What if ticket sales drop?’ he says. ‘You lost.’ And he said: ‘But you have to make up for the damage somehow. How will you compensate for your loss?’ I said, ‘There will be some tax advantage, but you will lose the money.’ That’s why studios have a hard time finding winners. ‘You amortize your losses with losers rather than winners.’ ‘Oh’ he says. For example, at that moment he completely decided, I will not get into this business.”

“He says, ‘If I buy a bad building and it doesn’t sell, I still have the damn building. If you have a shitty movie…’ It’s not an easy job.”

The “Last Man Standing” alum has spoken out about his “conservative” views in the past.

During an appearance on the “WTF with Marc Maron” podcast in 2021, Allen was asked if he considered himself an “old-school conservative” rather than a “right-wing crazy business.”

Allen explained that he has always been a “financial, conservative person with money” while sharing his frustration with the American tax system.

“When I started making money, I had a silent partner who took almost half of my money and gave me nothing in return, and that was taxes,” Allen said. “I never liked taxes… That’s it, I don’t like it. I worked hard for this business and achieved a lot, and I was hindered by my own mistakes. It’s all my fault, I understand that. But I had a silent partner. I never liked taxes.”

Allen confirmed that the “silent partner” he mentioned was “the government.”

During the conversation, Allen explained why he has never been one to openly discuss politics or openly support a political candidate.

“I literally preach nothing,” he said. “I don’t tell anyone else how to live. I liked it when I realized the last president was pissing people off. So it was fun not to say anything, [I] “I did not join the lynching mob.”

Allen recalled one of his first meetings with Trump in 2018.

“I met [Trump] -most [a] He told Entertainment Weekly at the time that he organized a charity event years ago and that was totally unbecoming of the guy who tweeted. “Privately, I’ve met a lot of people whose public persona is a little different. My perception is ‘let’s see what he does.’ Let’s stop banging on the pilot’s door and trying to get the guy out of his seat while he’s still flying. You may not like how he flies the plane, but let’s let him land it.”
