‘I’ll Get Impeached If We Lose The Midterms’: Why Trump Flags The Risk To Republicans After Venezuela Attack | World News

Washington, DC: US President Donald Trump told his fellow Republicans at the House of Representatives meeting on Tuesday, January 6, that the outcome of the 2026 midterm elections could decide whether he will be impeached again. He voiced his political concerns, emphasizing that losing the House majority would give Democrats a “reason” to act against him.
“You’ve got to win the midterms. Because if we don’t win the midterms… they’re going to find a reason to impeach me,” Trump told attendees, according to The Hill.
Emphasizing how important the upcoming elections are for his political future, he said, “I will be dismissed.”

Trump’s speech demonstrated his awareness of historical trends; He pointed out that incumbent parties frequently lose seats in midterm elections and expressed concern about public dissatisfaction with Trump’s leadership and the state of the economy.
“We’re going to have a successful presidency, let me tell you this… But even though it was a successful presidency and it was nothing like what we did, we had a great day,” he said.
He also questioned the unpredictability of voter sentiment, telling the crowd: “You’re all great people. You’ve been at this longer than I have. I wish you could explain to me what’s going through the public’s mind.”
His remarks come as Democrats approach the 2026 elections with confidence after a series of victories in November that energized their base and strengthened their hopes of taking back control of the House of Representatives. While a wide-scale landslide in the Democratic Party is not a certainty, political analysts say the broader environment currently favors the opposition.
House Speaker Mike Johnson echoed Trump’s concerns in his speech at the Turning Point USA American Festival held in Arizona last month. He warned that losing the House majority would trigger aggressive moves by Democrats, including attempts to impeach the president and create “absolute chaos.”
“If we lose the House majority, the radical left, as you’ve heard before, will impeach President Trump. They will create absolute chaos. We can’t let that happen,” he said, according to The Hill.
Trump has faced impeachment twice before: first in 2019, more than a year after Democrats took control of the House of Representatives, and again in 2021, near the end of his first term. Now, discussions of a potential third impeachment have surfaced following a US military operation in Caracas that resulted in the capture of ousted Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores.
