Police and paramedics injured by van while responding to crash scene

In a separate traffic accident, 5 emergency service personnel, including 3 police officers and 2 paramedics, were injured when a minibus crashed into them.

Essex Police confirmed that a paramedic and a police officer are currently in hospital with serious injuries. 3 people were detained regarding the incident.

The incident occurred on the A130 at around 12.15am on January 10. Off-duty officers and paramedics stopped to help after the Nissan X-Trail crashed.

However, in the statement made by the police, it was revealed that “while we were at the scene, a second collision occurred involving a white Ford Transit minibus.”

A 23-year-old man from Canvey was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, theft of a motor vehicle and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

A 29-year-old man from Westcliff was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of a Class B or Class C drug and taking charge of a vehicle while impaired by drink or drugs.

A 39-year-old man from Canvey was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing serious injury and impaired driving due to drink or drugs.

Chief Superintendent Morgan Cronin said: “Everyone at Essex Police’s thoughts are with the emergency workers who were injured while responding to this incident; both they and their families are being supported by the force.

“I would like to emphasize that this investigation is currently active and we encourage the public not to speculate and allow our teams to determine the facts surrounding these two incidents.

“Those arrested are in custody and we are working quickly on investigations.

“If the public has any information they believe would assist our investigation or significant CCTV footage of the vehicles involved, please get in touch.”

Police Minister Sarah Jones said her thoughts were with the officers, their families, colleagues and those who witnessed the incident.

“I hope they make a full recovery and investigations quickly determine the cause,” he added in a post on X.
