Nantucket stabbing near ferry docks rattles busy tourist district

A man was stabbed Tuesday morning in the heart of downtown Nantucket, just feet from the ferry dock that carries thousands of summer visitors to the famously wealthy Massachusetts island, authorities said.
Nantucket police said officers responded to a report of a stabbing on South Beach Avenue between Broad Street and Oak Street at 10:23 a.m. The area is next to a busy commercial area near the Steamship Authority ferry terminal, where tourists flock to the island’s cobblestone town centre.
The injured person was taken to Nantucket Cottage Hospital by the Nantucket Fire Department and received treatment., the police said.

The stabbing occurred in one of Nantucket’s most trafficked areas.

Eyewitnesses told Nantucket Current It was stated that the stabbing took place after a verbal and physical argument between the driver of the Myles Reis garbage truck and the driver of the Sayles Seafood distribution truck parked in the area.
Witnesses told local media that after the stabbing, the injured man ran toward “The Strip” and that employees at Stubby’s and other nearby businesses tried to stop the bleeding with napkins before first responders arrived.

According to the information provided by the authorities, a second person involved in the incident was also detained at the scene.

As of Tuesday evening, authorities had not identified the suspect, but a hearing was scheduled for Wednesday morning in Nantucket District Court.
Police said the investigation was ongoing and no further details would be released.

The alleged attack occurred as Nantucket enters its busy summer season, when the normally quiet island is transformed by waves of vacationers, day trippers, seasonal workers and wealthy homeowners.
Massachusetts State Police declined to provide further details and referred Fox News Digital to the Nantucket Police Department.
