Tension As Police Block YSRCP Visit To Kandaleru Dam
Nellore: Tension prevailed at the Kandaleru reservoir on Sunday after police prevented senior YSRC leaders from visiting the Kandaleru dam, leading to protests and the detention of several party leaders.
Police prevented former minister and YSRC Nellore district president Kakani Govardhan Reddy, former Sullurpeta MLA Kiliveti Sanjeevaiah and constituency coordinators Anam Vijay Kumar Reddy and Nedurumalli Ram Kumar Reddy from going to the reservoir near Tanancharla village in Rapur mandal. A heavy police presence was dispatched to the region and its surroundings.
The leaders were stopped at Podalakur and later at the main entrance of Kandaleru dam. As tensions increased, YSRC leaders staged a roadside protest at the main gate and shouted slogans against the police and the state government.
Nedurumalli Ram Kumar Reddy alleged that the restrictions violated democratic rights and were imposed under political pressure. Heated arguments took place between the police and party leaders.
The police then detained Kakani Govardhan Reddy and others and sent them to Rapur, where Kakani was formally arrested. The situation remained tense for several hours as police continued to restrict entry to the reservoir area.
While the police said that the measures were taken to maintain law and order, YSRC leaders stated that the action was politically motivated.
