CBSE launches letter writing competition, winners to get Rs 50000, trip to this country; details inside

News from CBSE: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has launched the Universal Postal Union 2026 International Letter Writing Competition for Youth. The board invited broad participation from students across the country. The winner will receive a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and a certificate. The best entry at the national level will qualify for the international level competition.
In a circular issued on January 13, 2026, CBSE stated that the competition was organized by the Ministry of Posts and that it was the 55th anniversary of the international initiative. This year’s theme is ‘Write a letter to a friend about why human connections are important in a digital world’, which encourages students to think about emotional connections in an age dominated by technology.
When will the competition be held?
Schools will need to hold competitions by March 20, and all evaluations from the top three must reach the principal’s office by March 31. According to the circular, the Gold Medal winner may be offered a visit to the UPU Headquarters in Bern, Switzerland, or an alternative award at the discretion of the UPU. Participants who receive special mention will also receive certificates and other awards.
The reason behind the initiative
The initiative aims to develop creativity, compositional skills and depth of thought among young people. It also aims to promote international friendship and understanding by allowing students to express ideas that resonate beyond national borders. Check the official circular HERE.
