Murder probe launched after police swarm Asda Express garage | UK | News

A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a man at a service station in Seaham. A pedestrian is believed to have been struck by a vehicle in the forecourt of the Asda Express garage on Stockton Road, County Durham, at around 4.50pm on Thursday.

Police, paramedics and firefighters arrived at the scene and cordoned off the garage, with Durham Constabular saying it was likely to remain closed for some time. The pedestrian, aged in his 20s, was seriously injured and unfortunately died at the scene. In the photo taken after the incident, it can be seen that the garage window was broken.

While forensic teams continue their investigation into the incident, 3 people were detained.

Officers and cordon remain at the scene, as well as a blue forensics tent and a green sheet covering the store.

Stockton Road between the garage and The Mallard pub is also still closed.

While forensic teams started an investigation, the photo taken from the scene showed that the garage window was broken.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: “Officers responded to reports of a disturbance on Stockton Road in Seaham at around 4.50pm yesterday (Thursday, January 15).

“A pedestrian is believed to have been struck by a vehicle in the forecourt of New Seaham Service Station, where a man in his 20s suffered serious injuries. Unfortunately the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The murder investigation continues, 3 people have been detained regarding the incident.

“The section of the B1285 between the Mallard pub and the petrol station is likely to remain closed for a period of time whilst investigations continue.

“Anyone with any information about the incident or who has CCTV or dashcam footage in the area at the same time is asked to contact Durham Police via 101 quoting incident number 281 of January 15.”
