The 31-year-old Sydney player dropped the first set to Argentina’s Juan Manuel Cerundolo in a tiebreak on Monday, but managed to advance to the second round in the following sets.
Thompson will face Nuno Borges from Portugal on Wednesday, January 21 at 13.40 at 1573 Arena.
Rinky Hijikata

The 24-year-old player advanced to the second round by beating Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in straight sets on Monday night.
Hijikata will face Morocco’s Valentin Vacherot on Thursday, January 22, and the time of the match has not been announced yet.

In a special moment, Dane Sweeny scored his first major grand slam win against 6-time ATP Tour champion and tournament mainstay Gaël Monfils in an epic 4-set first round at the Show Court Arena.
The first set went to a tiebreak before Sweeny defeated the French showman in his final Australian Open match in the following sets, 7-5, 6-4, 7-5.
His opponent and the date of the second round match have not been determined yet.

The 32-year-old staged a bold first-round comeback after losing the first set 6-4 against Ukrainian Yuliia Volodymyrivna Starodubtseva on Monday night at the John Cain Arena.
Tomljanovic will face Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse on Wednesday, January 21 at 17:00 at John Cain Arena.
Talia Gibson

The 21-year-old wild card earned the best win of her career with a dominant 6-1, 6-3 straight performance against Russian Anna Blinkova on Monday.
Gibson will face another Russian, Diana Shnaider, in the second round on Wednesday, January 21 at 11:00 at the Show Court Arena.
Priscilla honey

Hon won her first Australian Open match in six years against Canadian Marina Stakusic on Monday with a score of 1-6, 6-4, 5-3 after two hours of play.
After Stakusic suffered severe cramps in the final set, Hon showed outstanding sportsmanship by helping his injured opponent remain in a wheelchair at Stadium Australia.
Hon will face American Iva Jović in the second round on Wednesday, January 21 at 20:40 at Rod Laver Arena.
Storm Chaser

The 2022 US Open mixed doubles champion defeated Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-4, 6-4 on Monday to advance to the second round.
Hunter will face American rising star Hailey Baptiste on Wednesday, January 21 at 12.30pm at the Australian Stadium.
Taylah Preston

Wildcard Taylah Preston stunned Kia Arena on Tuesday, dispatching world No. 15 Zhang Shuai in doubles 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 to book a place in the second round.
The 20-year-old Australian looked emotional as he made the late break to finish the match and spoke on the field.
“I’m really happy to get my first grand slam victory today,” he said.
Preston will face Linda Nosková from the Czech Republic on Wednesday, January 21, and the time of the match has not yet been announced.
Are there any Australian players in the game today?
Another wildcard, James Duckworth, is in an exciting clash against Croatia’s Dino Prizmic (world number 127) on Court 6, with the match now in the second half of the fourth set. Duckworth won the first set in the tiebreak and lost two consecutive sets, 6-3, 6-1.
In the women’s category, Daria Kasatkina (world number 43) will face 19-year-old Nikola Bartunkova (world number 126) at the ANZ Arena. There are currently significant delays in the on-field match schedule due to the O’Connell vs Basavareddy match being in its third hour.
The evening will culminate with an all-Australian clash between world No. 76 Kimberly Birrell and world No. 168 Maddison Inglis at the John Cain Arena, with an estimated start time of 7pm.
