The Bhima Koregaon victory anniversary celebration held in Hassan on January 20 attracted a huge crowd. Hundreds of people participated in the march to commemorate the event, which was first held in Hassan to commemorate the victory of several hundred Mahar soldiers in the battle against the Peshwa Army at Bhima Koregaon, Maharashtra, 1818.
Throughout the march, which started at the Railway Station, participants carried blue flags and honored the architect of the Indian Constitution, Dr. They danced to songs praising BR Ambekdar. In 1927, Bhima visited Koregaon and emphasized the importance of the historical event.
The chief guest of the event was Ambedkar’s grandson Bhimrao Yashwant Ambedkar. He was taken to the convention site in a specially decorated vehicle traveling with the procession. A copy of the victory column symbolizing the soldiers’ victory in the war was also carried in the procession.
Mr. Yashwant Ambedkar alleged that the Union government was busy selling all public sector units to private individuals, not giving jobs to highly educated people from depressed sections. “There are many obstacles ahead of us. Our qualified people are not getting the jobs they deserve,” he said.
On the 200th anniversary of the victory, Bhima recalled the violence that took place in Koregoan. Those who attended the event were attacked by government supporters. “The incident had a positive outcome. From the next day onwards, the media highlighted the date of Bhima Koregaon,” he said.
The event was jointly organized by Bharatiya Boudha Mahasabha, Dalit Samanyava Samiti, Dalit Employees Association, SC-ST Contractors Association and other like-minded organisations. Senior Dalit leaders HK Sandesh, Ambuga Mallesh, MP Shreyas M. Patel and others were present.
