No further criminal charges to be brought against killer nurse Lucy Letby, CPS says

The Crown Prosecution Service has said no further charges will be brought against convicted child murderer Lucy Letby following a 2025 investigation into allegations of murder and attempted murder of nine children at hospitals where she worked.
Cheshire Constabulary submitted additional evidence to prosecutors for consideration last year in connection with eight possible attempted murder charges and one murder charge at the Countess of Chester Hospital.
Two other allegations of attempted murder and murder were also linked to a child at Liverpool Women’s Hospital.
Cheshire Constabulary said in a statement that this was “not the outcome they were expecting” and added that they were “confident” they had sufficient evidence to secure charges.
Police said: “We believed the evidence given met the CPS charging standard. “The CPS disagreed and despite our representations we must respect the decision made.
“There will be those who think this is news worth celebrating. We do not share this view and ask people to respect the privacy and feelings of the families involved.”
The 35-year-old former nurse, from Hereford, was sentenced to 15 life sentences after being found guilty of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder a further seven between June 2015 and June 2016 at Manchester Crown Court.
Frank Ferguson, head of the CPS’s Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Section, said: “In July 2025 we received a dossier of evidence from Cheshire Constabulary asking us to consider further allegations against Lucy Letby, 36, relating to deaths and non-fatal baby collapses at the Countess of Chester Hospital and Liverpool Women’s Hospital.
“After a thorough review of this evidence, we have determined that no criminal charges should be filed in relation to these further allegations.
“The Crown Prosecution Service assessed charges of murder and attempted murder in relation to the two deceased babies and attempted murder in relation to the seven surviving babies.
“We concluded that the evidentiary test was not met in any of these cases. As always, this decision was made independently, based on the evidence, and in accordance with our legal tests.”
“CPS has written to the families concerned and will be holding meetings to further explain our decision-making process. Our thoughts are with them.”
Lucy Letby’s lawyer, Mark McDonald, said: “Lucy Letby has always maintained her innocence; she has never harmed a child and will never harm a child. It is vital that the case is returned to the Court of Appeal as a matter of urgency.”
“31 reports were submitted to the CCRC (Criminal Cases Review Commission), compiled by 26 internationally renowned experts, providing overwhelming evidence that no babies were killed.
“The truth is that a young, innocent woman is in prison for crimes she did not commit.”
This is a breaking story, more to come…
