Yvette Cooper says Britain will not join Trump’s ‘peace council’ for now upon Putin’s invitation
Good morning. In a Guardian article published on Tuesday, Gordon BrownFormer Prime Minister said:
Years from now, history books will tell us about this. [Donald] Trump could have declared a quick victory in the Greenland negotiations; Danish offer virtually unlimited military bases and access to Greenland 25 critical minerals.
Trump is probably not a regular Guardian reader and so is unlikely to have taken Brown’s advice, but we don’t have to wait for the history books; Last night, in line with Brown’s proposed strategy, Trump backed away from talk of invading or buying Greenland, instead heralding a more limited “deal” as a victory for negotiations.

Thus ended the four-day crisis that occupied Westminster. It also destroyed the No. 10 news network, which was supposed to focus on cost-of-living announcements this week. During this morning’s visit, Keir Starmer will seek to stimulate interest in one of the initiatives announced yesterday, the warm homes scheme.
But he will not be able to avoid questions about Trump because the events of the last few days have made it harder than ever for Britain to treat the US as a reliable ally.
this morning Yvette CooperThe Minister of Foreign Affairs gives interviews. Asked about another difficult dividing line between him and Trump, he said Britain would not be one of the first countries to sign up to the “peace board”, a new body that should take responsibility for rebuilding Gaza but which Trump sees as a potential alternative to the UN.
When asked if the UK would participate, Cooper said:
There’s so much work to be done. We will not be one of the signatories today, because this is about a legal agreement that raises much broader issues, and we also have concerns about President Putin being part of something that talks about peace when we have not yet seen any sign from Putin that there will be a commitment to peace in Ukraine.
And honestly, that’s what we need to talk about.
Trump said that Russian President Vladimir Putin also attended the board, but Putin himself did not confirm this.
