At least nine people fell ill after consuming contaminated drinking water in Mhow tehsil in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district, officials said on Friday, January 23, 2026.

They said that cases of waterborne disease were reported from Patti Bazaar and Chander Marg areas on Thursday night (January 22, 2026).

Indore Collector Shivam Verma arrived in Mhow late at night and visited hospitalized patients and spoke to residents of the affected areas, an official said.

He said nine patients were hospitalized, while some were recovering at home.

The official said that Ministry of Health personnel have been working with Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr. since Friday morning, January 23, 2026. He said that he was in the region under the rule of Madhav Hasani.

He said that a team from Indore Medical College and other specialist doctors were also sent to the scene.

Mhow MLA Usha Thakur also visited the hospital to meet the affected people.

Collector Verma directed the health department to ensure proper and effective treatment to all patients and directed the Mhow Cantonment Board to check the water quality in the area and maintain cleanliness.

Mr Verma said the government was monitoring the situation closely.

The official said an inspection will be carried out in the affected areas and residents with any symptoms will be provided with appropriate treatment and critically ill patients will be admitted to hospital.

He added that there are currently no patients in critical condition, and some of them will be discharged within the day.

Last month, several people fell ill and seven deaths due to water pollution were reported in Indore’s Bhagirathpura district.

While residents claimed that the outbreak has claimed 25 lives so far, a situation report submitted by the Madhya Pradesh Government to the Supreme Court on January 15, 2026, mentioned seven deaths, including a five-month-old boy.
