M25 Dartford Tunnel LIVE: Drivers face huge delays | UK | News

National Highways made the following statement:

A spokesman said: “The western (left) bore of the Dartford Tunnel is closed between J1a Littlebrook Junction (Erith A206; Swanscombe (A226)) and J31 Purfleet Junction (South Ockendon, Dagenham A1306).

“A truck exceeding the permitted height entered the left tunnel and, while doing so, hit several pieces of equipment, causing damage.

“The equipment is vital to the safe operation of the tunnel and therefore traffic cannot flow through it until repairs are carried out. “National Highways has contractors on site to carry out the repairs but this will likely take several hours.

“Although the east (right) bore remains open to traffic, please note that we advise road users planning to use the Dartford Tunnels this afternoon/evening to expect very long delays and heavy traffic congestion while the left bore remains closed. “If this closure affects your planned route, please allow extra journey time.

“Plan ahead; you may want to change your route or even postpone your trip.”
