Amber Heard makes rare comments about Johnny Depp lawsuit impact at Sundance

Amber Heard is speaking out about the Johnny Depp case that ultimately caused her to keep quiet.
At the Sundance Film Festival premiere of “Silenced,” a new documentary by director Selina Miles and international human rights lawyer Jennifer Robinson about the experiences of women silenced in defamation lawsuits, Heard said her main goal was to raise awareness of the profound personal impact such legal battles can have.
“This isn’t about me,” Heard said during her confessional in the film. Diversity. “I’ve lost the ability to speak. I’m not here to tell my story. I don’t want to tell my story. In fact, I don’t want to use my voice anymore. That’s the problem.”
Heard was joined by political staffer Brittany Higgins, who alleged rape against a superior in the Australian parliament; Catalina Ruiz-Navarro, editor of the Latin American magazine Volcánica, who was sued by director Ciro Guerra after he published a series of misconduct allegations against her; and human rights lawyer Sibongile Ndashe.

Heard, who testified against Depp during the libel case against The Sun in 2020, said the outcome of that case “depended” on her involvement.
“The outcome of this hearing depended on my participation, and I depended on the outcome of this hearing,” he said in the film. “When I first met [Robinson]I immediately felt like he understood the big picture. “What happened to me is an exaggerated version of what many women experience.”
According to the publication, the film portrays Heard as a subject of public disdain.
“I remember at the end of the hearing the idea came up that I could say something to the press. [Robinson] He asked if I was sure about this. [I thought]’If they throw something at me it makes the point even more clear.’ “I didn’t realize how bad it could be for me as a woman to use my voice,” she said.

“It gives me strength to see other people taking up the fight. Women brave enough to address the imbalance of power. Looking at my daughter’s face as she grows up and slowly begins to step into this world… I believe this can be better.”

In 2022, Depp and Heard faced off in a bombshell defamation case. They accused each other of physical and emotional abuse.
Depp sued Heard for $50 million, claiming she was the victim of domestic abuse in a column she wrote for The Washington Post in 2018. Heard countersued her ex-husband for $100 million, accusing him and his former lawyer of conspiring to “destroy and defame” her. Depp eventually won the case.
The jury decided to pay compensation of $10 million to Depp and $2 million to Heard. Depp’s side said the settlement included a payment of $1 million from him to cover all financial claims.

The couple, who got married in 2015, separated in 2016. Less than a week after filing for divorce, Heard filed a domestic restraining order against her husband, charging him with domestic violence. People reported.
Just one day before their scheduled restraining order hearing, they reached a $7 million settlement in their divorce, media reported. Their divorce was finalized in 2017.

Although Depp returned to Hollywood Times prefers to stay out of the spotlight.
“Well, to this day I rarely go out,” he said. “If my friends invite me out for Mexican dinner, I’m like, ‘Dude, you’re so sweet, but I’m going to ruin your night.’ My presence will attract attention, and God, I’ve had nearly 40 years of fame and I’m still not used to it. And I’m glad I’m not.”

“I can be isolated and happier than a clam,” he added. “But I don’t go out much. I get stuck in my thoughts; I just think, write, or watch weird stuff on YouTube. That can’t be healthy.”
After your loss, Heard sold her home in California and left the country for Spain in late 2022.
The shooting of “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”, the 39-year-old artist’s last film to date, was completed months before the libel case, which started in April 2022.
A source told people magazine at the time, the actor was “excited to work and shoot again. He was exhausted and disappointed about the trial. He felt he had been mistreated.”
