Elon Musk’s X probed by EU over sexually explicit images on Grok

The European Commission said on Monday that it had launched an investigation into Elon Musk’s X over the dissemination of sexually explicit material by AI chatbot Grok.
The investigation is being carried out under the European Union’s comprehensive Digital Services Act (DSA) regulation.
“The new investigation will assess whether the company appropriately assessed and mitigated the risks associated with the deployment of Grok’s functions in X in the EU,” the Commission, the EU’s executive arm, said in a statement. he said.
“This includes risks associated with the dissemination of illegal content in the EU, such as manipulated sexually explicit images, including content that could be considered child sexual abuse material.”
The commission said the risks “appear to have materialized and expose citizens in the EU to serious harm”.
Grok came under fire this year after users demanded the system produce sexualized images of children and other individuals.
Musk’s xAI said earlier this month that it had blocked Grok from creating sexualized images of real people.
