Nelly Korda: Lack of mixed indoor league in TGL ‘an unbelievable miss’ says world number two

World number two Nelly Korda has described the lack of a mixed-gender virtual indoor league as an “incredible omission” following the launch of the women’s competition backed by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.

The WTGL will be held at the same Florida venue as the men’s TGL, which is currently in the middle of its second season.

Some of the world’s best women’s golfers will compete in a season of team matches at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, but Korda suggested not combining the men’s and women’s events was a missed opportunity.

“I have mixed feelings about this and I’m surprised no other girls have spoken out about it,” she said.

“It’s a huge and incredible mistake that we don’t play with the men.

“There’s no better way to evolve the game and it would be revolutionary. I think it was the first time men and women were playing on the same playing field, for the same amount of money.”

“But I also think it’s great that we got this opportunity, so I have mixed feelings.”

In the indoor golf setup, teams of players who shoot on a five-story-high simulator screen move to the short-game area where bunkers and a green that rotates 360 degrees create variations from hole to hole.

Former TV executive Mike McCarley, who founded TGL with McIlroy and Woods, said the idea had been discussed when asked about the possibility of a mixed event.

“I think it’s something that’s interesting to us, interesting to the LPGA, and interesting to a lot of the players we talk to,” McCarley said.

“Right now we’re really focused on building (TGL) and providing a beautiful stage and a really nice platform to showcase the players and their personalities.”

Korda, 27, has not yet committed to participating in the event and said he is “still weighing the time commitment” to play in the tournament.

World number one Jeeno Thitikul and British golfers Charley Hull and Lottie Woad are among the players confirmed to compete.

Atlanta Drive won their first TGL title last year by beating New York GC 4-3, with the £10.39 million prize money split between the two finalists.

This competition of the season, external It started on December 28, with a best-of-three final set to begin on March 23.

The start date and prize pot for the women’s competition have not yet been announced; beyond that, it is planned for the winter of 2026-27.
