Harry Enten Says Trump Is Now Facing The Comparison He Dreads Most

Confidence in the economy has waned under President Donald Trump, CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten said Tuesday.
“The economy and inflation ate Joe Biden’s presidency alive, and now they’re eating Donald Trump’s presidency alive,” he said, referring to recent polls.

While Biden was at -19 points in the economic survey in January 2022, Trump, who started his second term with +6 points, is currently at the same point in the period. It dropped to -20.
“He is going down,” Enten said of Trump. “He’s going down the slide into the ocean.”
“Donald Trump is actually in a slightly worse position right now economically than he was under Joe Biden,” he added.

Enten suggested that, according to the survey, a majority of 74 percent of Americans think the Trump administration is focusing too little on lowering prices.
But 53 percent believe there is too much focus on anti-immigrant crackdowns and deportations.

Enten predicted bad news for the GOP in the 2026 midterm elections if the trend continues.
“If the president’s net approval rating on the economy is positive (which Donald Trump is not), you keep your loss of seats in the House to a minimum, right? On average, you lose about nine seats,” he said. “If the net approval rating on the economy is negative, as it is now for Donald Trump […] “An average loss of 28 seats.”
He added that this would mean saying “goodbye” to the GOP’s House majority and likely control of the Senate as well.
