The Congress leadership held separate meetings with party leaders from Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh on Thursday, January 29, 2026, asking them to work together to highlight the failure of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) governments to deliver on their promises and sharpen the party’s organizational response on the ground.

The meetings were chaired by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and attended by former party chief Rahul Gandhi and AICC general secretary (organization) KC Venugopal.
State Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasra, Legislative Assembly Party leader Tikaram Jully, AICC general secretaries Sachin Pilot and Bhanwar Jitendra Singh and party spokesperson Pawan Khera were present at the Rajasthan meeting held at Mr. Kharge’s residence.
Mr. Dotasra said the talks focused on organizational issues, including the appointment of booth-level representatives, the move to reintroduce the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act and alleged irregularities in the final stages of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Preparations for the upcoming panchayat and municipal elections were also reviewed. He said the leadership has emphasized unity and sustained mobilization on issues affecting marginalized sections, with an eye on strengthening the party ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections.
“The message from senior leadership was to work together and continue to speak out against both issues affecting people and discrimination by the government,” he said.
In a meeting with Chhattisgarh leaders, including former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, former Deputy Chief Minister TS Singhdeo and State unit chief Deepak Baij, Mr. Pilot accused the BJP government of undermining tribal rights and weakening panchayats by replacing MGNREGA with a new employment law.

“The BJP government in the state has completely failed. Mining is being allowed to enter through the back door, causing trouble to our tribal brothers and sisters and in such a situation, we stand with them,” Mr. Pilot said.
“The BJP government repealed MGNREGA and introduced a new law. This took away the rights of panchayats, poor and laborers. We will put constant pressure on the center and the center will have to withdraw this new law.”
