In his Truth Social post, Trump referred to his meeting with Prime Minister Modi earlier in the day, stating that the Prime Minister is one of his closest friends and a strong, respected leader of India.
The US President also claimed that Prime Minister Modi had agreed to “stop buying Russian Oil” and buy much more from the US.
Trump also noted that India will reduce tariffs and non-tariff barriers to the US.
“It was an honor to speak with Prime Minister Modi of India this morning. He is one of my closest friends and a Strong and Respected Leader of his Country. We talked about many things including trade and ending the war with Russia and Ukraine. He agreed to stop buying Russian Oil and buy much more from the US and potentially Venezuela. This will help END THE WAR currently going on in Ukraine where thousands of people are dying every week! Out of friendship and respect for the Prime Minister Modi and his upon his request, effective immediately, we have agreed to a Trade Agreement between the United States and India, whereby the United States will reduce the Mutual Tariff from 25% to 18%, and will likewise proceed to reduce Tariffs and Non-Tariff Barriers against the United States to ZERO.”
“The Prime Minister also committed to “BUY AMERICAN” at a much higher level, $500 BILLION in US Energy, Technology, Agriculture, Coal and many other products. Our great relationship with India will be even stronger in the future. PM Modi and I are two people who GET THE JOB DONE, something that cannot be said for most. Thank you for your interest in this matter!” he added.
