Iconic 83-year-old pizza chain has closed over 100 restaurants

Chicago-style pizza has always been difficult to sell outside of Chicago.

Growing up near Boston, a city with a tradition of thinner-crust pizza offered by chains like Pizzeria Regina, Papa Gino’s and Santarpio’s, deep-dish pizza seemed like an entirely different food. It wasn’t something widely sold when I was a kid, and pizza remains something I never really consider.

Despite this, Uno Pizzeria, known as Pizzeria Uno in the 1980s and ’90s, flourished in New England. The chain offered a version of the deep-dish pizza that was similar to the Chicago classic but also closer to traditional pizza.

It was a deep dish, but not as deep as those traditionally sold under that name. You can eat it with a fork and knife, or you can eat it by slicing it.

Uno hasn’t exactly taken over New England, but it has become a steady presence with dozens of locations throughout the region. That presence has slowly diminished as the overall chain has fallen from more than 150 locations nationwide to just 36 locations as of Feb. 3, 2026, according to the report. locations page On the company’s website.

Now the chain has suddenly closed three more locations in Massachusetts.

Uno Pizzeria closed its locations in Dedham, Revere and Braintree, Massachusetts, without any notice to customers. WCVB in Boston reported.

The chain posted an announcement on its Facebook page, but it was later removed.

“After 34 years of serving this wonderful community, our Revere location is closing its doors for the final time on Sunday,” the restaurant said. “We want to say a big thank you to everyone who has made this restaurant feel like home for over thirty years. It was an unforgettable run!”

More Restaurants

Due to these closures, only five Massachusetts locations are listed on the chain’s website. Two locations are listed for New Hampshire in Concord and Tilton. There are no Uno restaurants left in Rhode Island.

Uno did not respond to a request for comment from the news station.
