Why dozens of historic defence properties will be sold

WHAT IT SELLS AND WHY IT SELLS:
* A total of 67 Defense properties will be sold in whole or in part, raising $1.8 billion and saving $100 million in maintenance costs each year.
* Three have already been sold
* The federal government will put the money back into the Defense budget to save costs
* The announcement follows an inspection of Defense property that has been assessed by the government for two years
* In addition to golf courses and apartments on the islands, the sites also include a historical repatriation center used for the rehabilitation of wounded troops
* Personnel in the fields will be moved to other defense fields.

* NSW: Victoria Barracks, Sydney, Lancer Barracks, HMAS Penguin
* Victoria: Victoria Barracks Melbourne, RAAF Williams, Point Cook, RAAF Williams, Laverton
* Queensland: St Lucia Training Depot, Mount Isa Rifle Range, Victoria Barracks
