Girl, 16, who yelled ‘Get him!’ as man ‘lured to beach to meet her was killed with rocks and a bottle’ will not give evidence in murder trial

The 16-year-old girl who screamed at the electrician as a ‘fucking pedophile’ before killing him with a rock and a bottle will not testify in the murder trial.

The teenager was on holiday on Kent’s Isle of Sheppey with two boys aged 15 and 16. When she and Alexander Cashford, 49, first met at an entertainment venue last summer.

Mr Cashford gave the girl his number and they sent her messages using the fake name ‘Sienna’, arranging to meet her by the seawall two days later on 10 August.

The 16-year-old boy then followed Mr Cashford for 850 meters as he walked along the seashore with the young girl.

Allegedly, his friend was filmed catching up with the 49-year-old electrician and hitting him in the back of the head with an empty glass bottle.

The 16-year-old was also seen on the beach by a witness throwing a rock at Mr Cashford’s head.

The victim was later found dead with multiple injuries.

The 16-year-old man admits manslaughter but denies murder.

Alexander Cashford, 49, met the teenagers at a theme park in Kent last summer.

The other 15-year-old boy and girl deny murder and manslaughter.

The 16-year-old girl, who was filming the incident, was heard shouting at Mr Cashford: ‘I’m 16, you f***ing pedophile’, ‘fucking paedo’, ‘get him’ and ‘now.’

The 16-year-old admitted hitting Mr Cashford with a bottle, throwing rocks at him and kicking him to the ground after chasing him.

Asked why he didn’t report Mr Cashford to the police after he gave the girl his number, the boy said: ‘I felt the police wouldn’t do anything.’

When he completed his statement, Danny Robinson KC, defending the girl, said he would not testify.

Mr Robinson later read character references written by his parents and godmother as part of the defense case.

Her father said he had taken his daughter to stay with her grandparents at their holiday home in Leysdown-on-Sea, Kent, earlier that month.

Another relative said of the girl: ‘She always showed respect for others.

‘He showed thoughtfulness and empathy beyond his years.’

The godmother said the allegations against her were ‘out of character for the girl I have known for years’.

The 15-year-old is expected to testify on Wednesday afternoon.

Earlier, the court heard the 16-year-old ‘punched’ another teenager and then beat Mr Cashford to death with a bottle and rocks ‘the size of a cricket ball’.

Jurors heard the girl ‘wanted to expose Mr Cashford as a pedophile… and wanted to film any beatings she received’.

Kate Blumgart KC, who prosecuted the case, asked the 16-year-old boy, with the help of an intermediary, if the other boy ‘wanted to be part of the plan’. He answered: ‘Yes’.

Miss Blumgart added: ‘Did you both think you were going to hit him?’

He replied: ‘Yes.’

Ms Blumgart asked if she remembered ‘exchanging blows’ with the male defendant.

‘Yes,’ he replied.

He added: ‘Because you were going to attack Mr Cashford?’, and he said ‘yes’.

Ms Blumgart asked: ‘The girl was not part of that attack. Was he going to meet her?’

He answered: ‘Yes’.

The boy admitted everyone thought it would be a ‘good idea’ to get away from the crowds on the promenade before attacking Mr Cashford.

Miss Blumgart asked: ‘Did you think you were going to chase him?’

He said: ‘I’m not sure what was going through my mind. “I saw the bottle and bought it.”

Footage of the incident allegedly shows a glass bottle being thrown at Mr Cashford's head.

The boy told jurors he thought it would cause a ‘bump’ to Mr Cashford’s head.

Mrs Blumgart asked him: ‘Did you want to hurt him? Did you think the bottle on his head would cause serious injury?’

The boy replied: ‘No.’

Miss Blumgart asked: ‘Why did you try to hit him a second time?’ and he said: ‘That’s exactly what happened.’

Miss Blumgart asked: ‘Was it because you really wanted to hurt him badly?’

He replied: ‘No. I wasn’t actually sure what I was thinking. The plan was just for me to hit him.’

He said the other boy ‘just hit him’.

Ms Blumgart asked if the girl was “shocked” when he hit her.

“No,” he replied.

When asked why he threw the bottle at Mr Cashford, the boy replied: ‘Because he was too far away to hit him.’

The boy admitted he may have thrown ‘a stone the size of a cricket ball’ at Mr Cashford while chasing him, but not while he was on the ground.

Mrs Blumgart asked: ‘Did you or did you not throw stones at him while he was on the ground?’

He replied: ‘I’m not really sure. I can’t remember.’

The 16-year-old added that he ‘might have kicked him in the ribs with medium force’ but not ‘with everything I had’.

The court heard he later shared footage of the attack with three men with the caption: ‘fuck you hahaha [sic].’

The trial continues.
