Maharashtra Assembly passes public security Bill; law won’t be misused: CM

The bill was introduced at the winter session of the Assembly in December 2024 and referred to a joint selection committee for the review. Income Minister Chandrashekar Bawancule presented the report of the Joint Election Committee in Parliament on Wednesday.

‘A safe shelter’

“The other four states forbade 48 frontal organizations. Maharashtra has the highest 64 companies in the country. One of the left -wing extremist organizations has not been banned. The state has not become a safe shelter for them. A person cannot be arrested within the scope of this law.

Expressing his concerns about the draft, the CPI legislator Vinod Nikole said, “Organizations that protest according to the superiority of law should not face problems. Possibility there, so I oppose this bill.” He said.

‘Definitions need clarity’

NCP (SP) leader Rohit Pawar said that certain definitions on the invoice were “uncertain”. “Instead of ‘pro -excessive left wing organizations’, he can say Naxal organizations. The senses through the draft is the targeting of people with left ideology. There should be clarity in the definition.”

Shiv Sena (UBT) Mla Varun asked whether student organizations or farmers would be reserved in accordance with the law for protest. “Every university has left -leaning groups. If they protest or send something in WhatsApp, will they encounter any action?” he said.
